Scan from the book "Cults of the Greek" by Lewis Richard Farnell. In this bronze depiction Hermes is a "ram bearer" or Kriphoros. The archaic Greeks and Romans offered Rams. At other times Hermes was known as τωρ or Agetor Ἀγήτωρ. The most ancient depiction of Archaic Greek Hermes is from the 6th century BCE. The bronze is wearing a tunic with belt and zig-zag pattern, has symbols of “wings” on his legs, is bearing a ram, but it has high hat with a split top and pointed shoes. In 1896 it was exhibited in Athens.
